While hydrotherapy cannot cure osteonecrosis, it plays an important role in helping manage the condition by allowing Hazel to exercise in a way that places minimal stress on her joints and affected bones.
The buoyancy of the warm water supports her body weight, reducing pressure on painful areas while allowing her to strengthen the muscles that help stabilize and protect her joints. Swimming also improves cardiovascular fitness, increases range of motion, helps maintain muscle mass, and can reduce stiffness, making it easier for Hazel to stay active and comfortable.
But what makes Hazel’s sessions so special isn’t just the physical benefits, it’s the joy she finds in the water.
From the moment she arrives, her excitement is contagious. Her tail starts wagging, she eagerly heads toward the pool, and once she’s swimming, you can see how much she truly loves every second of it. To Hazel, hydrotherapy isn’t a treatment she has to do it’s something she gets to do. She splashes, swims with enthusiasm, and leaves each session happy, relaxed, and fulfilled.
That combination of fun and therapy is what makes canine hydrotherapy so powerful. Dogs don’t realize they’re working hard to improve their strength, endurance, and mobility. they simply know their having the best time.
Watching Hazel continue to enjoy life, despite living with osteonecrosis, is incredibly rewarding. Every swim is another opportunity to keep her moving, support her body, and most importantly, let her do what she loves.
Her journey is proof that even when a condition can’t be cured, we can still help dogs live happier, stronger, and more comfortable lives one joyful swim at a time.

One of my favourite moments is welcoming a senior dog into the pool for the first time.
There’s something so special about watching them slowly begin to trust me, then seeing their bodies move with a freedom they haven’t felt in so long. The stiffness fades, their tails start wagging, and for a little while, they’re not thinking about sore joints or aching muscles. Their just enjoying the water.
Those happy tails, relaxed faces, and quiet moments of trust are why I love what I do. Every senior dog deserves the chance to feel comfortable, confident, and weightless again. It’s an honour to be part of that journey. ... See MoreSee Less
